Building a web-site       Back to Articles

If you are thinking of building a web-site but don't know where to start. Then here is an easy way to get started.

What do you need. Well, first you need an Internet connection. Next you will need a program to build your web pages. If you have a version of 'Windows Office', you will probably have 'FrontPage' installed. This is the program I recommend to start with.

Once you have built your site you will need to upload it to the Internet. You will need to purchase a 'Domain Name' and get a 'Hosting Account'

Look around for these items as the prices vary quite a lot.

Free Hosting - Totally Free Web Hosting (Just pay for a domain name if you don't want their adverts)

"100Mb disc space, 100Mb monthly bandwidth limit, 1 MySQL Database
We aim to activate free hosting accounts within 4 working days once we have verified your details.
Purchasing a domain name with your free hosting package means that you do NOT have to include a link back to us AND means your account is instantly activated! Currently £8.99 + VAT for 2 years!"

Note: Check out the above link. I've used them myself for some time without a problem.

For a brilliant 'FrontPage' tutorial that will have you building your site very quickly go here. Here's a snippet from the opening page: "Sure thing, Pixel! With FrontPage 2000, creating that first Web page was a breeze. The students simply opened up the software program and started typing out their ideas on the first page."

It's designed for kids but I'll let you into a secret... SSShhh don't tell anyone... It's how I started!!

If you have any questions about any of the above, then please email me: Here.

Good luck and when you have your site up and running, send me your address and I'll put a link on this site for you!
